Steam is a digital distribution service and storefront developed by Valve
You can install Steam from Package Manager (recommended), or from Flatpak
Steam does not only work as a place where you buy games and play your Steam games, but also you can use Steam to run Windows apps or even non-Steam games (non-Steam games as in PC games like: Genshin Impact, Girls Frontline 2 etc.). Keep in mind that not all games works on Linux, so make sure to check ProtonDB or Areweanticheatyet to check if your game can run in Linux (VALORANT, LoL...will not work on Linux lol).
To get Steam working on Linux, you want to install it's compatibility layer called Steam Proton. Once you have signed into steam make sure you also go to Settings -> Compatibility -> Enable Steam Play for all other titles -> Run other titles with: {Select your Proton version here}
(Personally I use Proton Experimental)
If however you want to use other Proton instead like GE-Proton, you can do so by installing ProtonUp-QT. The app will give you a menu for what version to download and where to install it to. As the writing of this guide, GE-Proton9-11 works the best. This is however subject to change.
